If you do happen to catch the sniffles or a full blown cold it is vital you maintain a healthy diet. I spoke with Sharon Natoli, a practising accredited dietitian, for some tips about maintaining a good and healthy diet.

Good gut bugs!

Sharon also recommends the use of Probiotics – they are the healthy bacteria that you find in foods like yoghurt and yoghurt drinks. They play an important role in maintaining a strong immune system. Sharon advises checking the types of probiotics that are in these foods and she recommends LGG or Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG as the best.

If you listen in to my chat with with Sharon you will find we talk about how sensible and informed food choices play an easy and important role in boosting our immunity. For example, Garlic is a great natural antibiotic and she also recommends foods like carrots that are rich sources of vitamin A. Sharon also recommends foods rich in zinc – and the richest source are oysters with 2  or 3 a day giving you 100% of your needs!

If you would like some more information on the value of Probiotics go to Harvard Medical School and read about their value and some advice about when they might not be so useful: https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/should-you-take-probiotics.
