90% of children over five now have regular access to the internet. Ipads, mobiles phones and Playstations combined with TV viewing increasingly occupies our children’s time. Even if we put aside the content (and we shouldn’t) there are studies from the US that show the unhealthy impacts of this increased idleness.
This American study showed that device obsessed 12-year-olds were 2.5 kg heavier than their peers. We know that chubby teenagers tend to become overweight adults and we are all aware of the problems of obesity so now is the time to do something. Listen to Dr John and then plan some time doing something active with your kids – enroll them in swim classes, get them playing team sports and buy yourself a bike and go for a trail ride with them.
