Your balance is controlled by a delicate process that collects information from so many sources. Your inner ears, vision, muscles and joints are all accessed by your brain with messages going out and back to ensure you stay in balance.

All this works less well as we age. Losing your balance leads to falls and in a third of cases that happens in your home. But there things which we can fix. Listen in as Dr John explores some practical steps we can take to improve our balance and stay safe, especially around the home.

The message is simple but powerful. Do some gentle exercise, improve your lighting in the home, remove clutter and tripping hazards and if you are a bloke over 60 leave that ladder in the shed and get a tradie to clear the gutters.
